Katja Simončič

Has a Bachelors in law from the University of Ljubljana and a MSc in International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam. In the process of writing her thesis in 2014, she spent two months in the Philippines, researching the engagement of local entrepreneurs in the booming service outsourcing industry and the obstacles they face in setting up an SME in that specific sector. She has previously interned at the Insitute for International Law and International Relations at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana and as a researcher at the Peace Institute in Ljubljana. Her interests lie in global and regional development issues (i.e., sustainability, equity, social justice), public policy, international affairs, human rights, and social entrepreneurship. Katja finished her PhD in Criminology at the University of Law in Ljubljana in 2019. She works as researcher at the Institute of Criminology in Ljubljana. Her research focus is on social justice, social harm (zemiology) and crimes of the powerful, with a particular interest in the consequences of the garment industry and its »fast fashion« phenomena in the Global South.
